flash fiction friday- the man on the corner

Every Friday, or on those days you have the time, write a short story, poem or prose
of 55 words, no more, no less then report it to the G-man!!

"the man on the corner i see him every day
he walks in pajamas and smiles in a funny way

the man on the corner gets ignored by everyone
did anyone noticed today that he was gone

the man on the corner is someone's son, brother and friend
will he ever walk this way again?"

Story behind this; there is a street near where i live, i get off the highway and take it south to go home. on the west side of the street just south of the highway there is a man who walks this block. he wears headphones and pajamas with a black shirt everyday. he smiles and sings along to the songs he listens to. he is always alone. i sometimes think that his whole universe revolves around that street corner where he walks back and forth everyday.

i haven't seen him in a few days and i often catch myself looking down the street to see if he is there. i wonder if anyone else ever notices him. i wonder if there is something wrong with him that he does this, spends his day walking along one corner of the street in this town, never going anywhere. i wonder if anyone else notices him...do you ever notice the man on the corner, there is one in every town.

so here you go g-man it is good to be up again in the blogging world!!! have an awesome weekend everyone, i will try to catch up on comments with this tomorrow!! thanks for stopping by

I often wonder about the people who stand at street corners. What did they do when they were young? What do they do now?

I loved this one -- recalled to me the poem about when Jesus came to Birmingham. I wonder about people in my day who go missing too -- I worry, but can't do anything! And they never know they were noticed, probably -- lots to think about in your 55 today. I hope your fellow there is okay tonight, somewhere.

You're right: someone's son, brother, father. I'm glad someone notices him. I hope he's just keeping cool somewhere.

I’m up here.

I see men like the one you describe all the time. Your poem recalls their human ties, in many cases forgotten. Enjoyed your 55. thanks

I'll bet a surprising number of people are/were aware of him. We have an old guy in town who does a lot of walking. I was surprised when my kids started talking about him as a local character everyone knew.

Back in the 70's I worked for a street homeless and mental health charity so I knew every strange guy( and woman) in the city by name and background. Just to be a hoot chatting to Walker Bob or Mary the Howler as everyone else walked on by.Just a fun 55 today!

Good 55 and, without reading your explanation about what it is, I can see so much of the world and it evokes so many experiences I've had over the years, wondering about that person standing alone over there.

Thanks!

Everyone has a story huh. I'm glad that you recognize that about your street corner singer. I hope he is ok.

Every morning when I head to work, there are people who have routines that intersect mine: I see them in the same spots at the same times each day. I will admit that I have invented/imagined stories for most of them...and it throws me off when they aren't there!

I hope your head-phoned, pyjama'd man is back where he belongs soon...

There are a few people I see walking or bike riding around my town and wonder what happened in their lives...I also think that it could be me there someday walking or riding around alone. I offer them my silent prays!

what remarkable 55,

I notice men in corners of streets all the time, at times do wonder about who they are and where they come from...

you have beautiful heart in making it a 55,
world famous 55 in my eyes.

Your concern is touching...so many people wouldn't even notice him though they pass by him, day after day. It is sad.

Nice job. There are many people like this that we never really see. Your man on the corner reminds me of an old fella who used to walk his dog along the side of the road every day. It didn't seem to matter what time I drove by, there he was and he always waved, throwing up an arm to everyone who drove by. Something happened to him because I haven't seen him all summer.

Good 55 and thanks for visiting mine.
